Plus Size Mother of the Bride Dresses

It’s the day you’ve been dreaming of and dreading. Your daughter comes home and announces that she’s getting married. You’re thrilled and excited, but now you need to find a plus size mother of the bride dress. Where do you start? What should you look for?

As a plus sized woman who is of some advanced years, you should be looking for something more respectful than the wedding dress that your daughter will be wearing. Even if you started your family early, by now you’re probably pushing 40 years old. A woman of that age, or more, should buy a dress which won’t overshadow , or attempt to overshadow, the bride. No matter your age, the mother of the bride should be a bit more conservative than you may normally dress. Your dress should not be too revealing, bold or flashy in any way. This wedding day is your daughters day to shine, not yours.

To still look great, instead of searching everywhere to find plus sized mother of the bride dresses, you can get a really classy, tasteful suit. This will be a bit easier to hide your larger frame, but it won’t look as flattering on you as a dress. A suit is notorious for having shoulder pads and bulky stitching and pockets. For a plus size woman, this can just make you look larger than you already are.

As the mother of the bride, what else should you look for when searching for the right dress for the wedding day? Pay close attention to the fabric of the dress. You don’t want anything too clingy that will enhance every flaw in your curvaceous form it is also wise to avoid bright colors and prints.

Another problem when you’re overweight is that there never seems to be anything in the right style, or color that is also in your exact size. When you do find something in a the right color or size, it bulges or doesn’t lay correctly, or possibly exposes more skin than a woman of your size would like to be showing. Ask the shop if they have a seamstress who does adjustments for you.

Sometimes it is more cost effective to get a dress which has most of the things you are looking for adjusted slightly by a professional. Make sure that you leave plenty of time if you decide to go this route, as there is nothing more sure to induce panic in any mother of the bride than hearing that her dress isn’t ready the day before her daughters wedding.

Hopefully your daughter will give you enough advance notice that you can shop around and try on may different dresses before you find just the right one. Now the only thing you need to do is find shoes to match!
