Plus Size Wedding Gowns

When selecting your plus size wedding gown for the most wonderful and perfect day of your life, you are looking for something that will make you look like a princess or goddess.  All eyes will be on you, so you want to look fabulous and amazing on your special day.

Unlike petite and junior sized women, a larger woman has a more difficult time trying to pick her wedding gown.  Most women don’t want the crowd to look at the bride and wonder why on earth she would pick a dress that would make her look so fat, but the choices are limited.  The market is geared for thin women.  Period.

Take a good look at yourself in the mirror and find your largest flaw.  This is what you’re going to want to try to hide or camouflage on your wedding day.  This area of your body will have to look as good as it possibly can.

If you have really fat arms, then try to find a bridal gown that has sleeves.  Cap sleeves or see-through sleeves work great for this. If you have an extremely large mid-section, then don’t buy a dress that has a hot pink belt, for example. Finding a dress that has a diagonal cut to the fabric will make you appear slimmer.  If you have fat legs, or as my friend puts it “cankles” (where the calf and ankle become one), then you might want to consider a longer dress rather than a tea length skirt. Most plus sized women have a generous bust line with their added weight. No one wants to go kiss the bride after the ceremony if they think your breast may spill over the top of your plus size wedding gown. Try to be a bit modest without being Amish-like.

If you have trouble finding any Plus size wedding gowns online, off the rack, or in a catalog, the next best alternative is to have a dress specially made for you.  It probably won’t cost much more than if you were to go buy a dress, and this way the measurements can be custom and a good seamstress will be able to make the necessary alterations to make you look as good as you possibly can.

After all is said and done, this day is YOURS.  Don’t be pressured to buy a dress that you know you don’t want or that you feel us unflattering for your voluptuous frame. Keep a smile on your face and enjoy your day.
